Do I need a doctor’s referral for physiotherapy?

A doctor’s referral is not required for physiotherapy in BC. However, you will need a doctor’s referral if you need physiotherapy for an ICBC claim, a WCB claim, and/or in some cases for your extended health coverage. If you are unsure, you should contact ICBC, WCB, or your extended health care provider to see if you are covered.

Am I covered by MSP (Medical Services Plan)?

If you are unsure whether you are covered by MSP, you can contact us with your CareCard number and we can check for you. MSP coverage is partial and is usually for people who receive premium assistance. If you are covered by MSP, you are eligible for ten Physiotherapy, Acupuncture or Massage Therapy visits combined each calendar year. You are still required to pay an MSP surcharge per visit. Please contact us if you would like more information.

Am I covered by my Extended Health?

Most extended health plans cover a large portion of your physiotherapy costs. It is best to check with your insurance company how many visits and how much they cover. Currently, you must pay for your treatments privately and get reimbursed by your extended healthcare plan provider.
